Matisse said, "an artist should shut up and let the work speak for itself". Rather than explain my work, I prefer to let the viewer bring their own experience to my paintings.

I normally work from life, but I will sometimes supplement that by working from sketches and even at times snapshots. I want to go back and make work like the kind made before human beings were seduced by the flatness of photos.
